To everyone interested in our Police Point workshop, please note there has been a change of dates to reflect the owner’s building schedule. This hands-on workshop is now locked in for Friday 14 and Saturday 15 September. Thanks for your understanding. We hope to see you there!
Joe D’Alo, Registered Builder and Director of The Hemp Building Company, will guide you through the hemp construction process from design and planning considerations, structural requirements, building regulations, interior detailing, traditional rendering finishes and cladding options.
You will explore the remarkable properties of hemp, its use by various civilisations throughout history, and the 'rediscovery' of hemp in recent times as the ultimate environmentally conscious solution to contemporary building. Discover how hempcrete buildings can be beautiful spaces, offer a healthy and comfortable interior, provide outstanding thermal and acoustic performance and last a lifetime.
Our workshop offers an in-depth look at the physical characteristics of hemp hurd and lime, as well as comprehensive hands-on instruction in practical building techniques and tips, accurate mixing ratios, equipment operation, and OH&S requirements.
A special focus of our workshop will be the environmental credentials and occupant health benefits of building with hempcrete.
Our workshop has been designed to give you the confidence and skills to get you off the drawing board and on your way to creating your own dream hempcrete build.
This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with an artisan skilled in the use of this incredibly versatile and environmentally sustainable building material.
Who Should Attend?
The content and delivery of the workshop will appeal to architects, tradespeople, owner-builders and educators, as well as anyone with an interest in hempcrete construction methods or natural building materials.
All equipment will be provided for the practical session. No prior knowledge or trade skills are required.
Unique to The Hemp Building Company, our workshop has been designed to provide you with an Installers Certificate. You will use CodeMark®* certified materials and receive training that is recognised by CodeMark® Australia. CodeMark® certification and its importance in obtaining building permit approval will be explained in detail.
* CodeMark certification provides confidence and certainty to regulatory authorities and the market through the issue of a Certificate of Conformity as evidence to demonstrate that a building product complies with the Building Code of Australia. Only accredited certification bodies can issue a CodeMark Certificate of Conformity.
